Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Below are some frequently asked questions about computers and
our services. For more information, please call us.
My computer is running very slowly. What's wrong?
If this has happened gradually, then probably
your hard disk has filled up or you have come to the limits of your
RAM (memory) or CPU (computer processor).
More memory almost always helps, especially XP.
You could also have unwanted programs running.
Or your virus check and memory scans are taking too much out
of your computer. Or
you could have spyware or a virus!
The solution will depend on the cause.
Are backups necessary?
Yes.
Your hard disk WILL crash and you had better have tape backups.
Or we can help you back up onto CD ROMs
What is the best virus protection?
The one you use.
We like Norton (Symantec) and McAfee.
You have to keep up with the updates.
Also there are several things you can do to protect yourself:
Limit network access and sharing
Add, or beef up your firewall.
Use filtering software
Educate you staff to not trust strangers
Can I get all of my email in one place?
You can do anything, and combining email access
between home and office is fairly easy.
AOL being the main exception.
We can help you access corporate and personal email form the
office, home or BOTH (the best choice).
This really helps for traveling professionals.
What training do my staff need?
Administrative staff can use advanced courses
for Word, Excel and Outlook. They
will be surprised at some of the features they don’t know about.
Small in-office instructions on printer usage, personal
backup, directory structure and tricks with Windows can help
everyone. We have
experts in all types of software.
Do we need custom software?
No.
We build it, and love to sell it.
But it is extremely expensive and I’ll bet you lunch that
you don’t need it.
Do you work on Macs?
No. Sorry.
